Children’s Programs

We offer three program sessions each year. Our Winter/Spring session runs from January through April, our summer session takes place during the month of July, and our Fall session runs from September through November. We have limited programming during May and June due to school outreach visits.

Program Descriptions

PAT-A-CAKE

For Ages: 0-12 months
Description: Stories, songs, rhymes, and bounces encourage babies and their caregivers to explore language and pre-literacy skills. Children attend with an adult caregiver. PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. Masks are recommended for attendees ages 2 and up.
Duration: 30 minutes

TALES FOR 1s AND 2s

For Ages: 12 to 24 months. Children attend with an adult caregiver.
Description: Tunes and tales for 1- and 2-year-olds. PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. Masks are recommended for attendees ages 2 and up.
Duration: 30 minutes

2s AND 3s TOGETHER

For Ages: 2- and 3-year-olds. Children attend with an adult caregiver.
Description: A sampler of stories, songs and fingerplays for two-and-three year olds. PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. Masks are recommended for attendees ages 2 and up.

FUN FOR 4s AND 5s

For Ages: 4- and 5-year-olds (pre-kindergarten). Children attend independently– caregiver must remain in Youth Services Department for the duration of the program.
Description: Rhymes, songs, and book-sharing. PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. Masks are recommended.

SING WITH ME

For Ages: Families with children of all ages 
Description: A family sing-along program with live music, featuring music teacher and guitarist Mr. Jim. Children attend with an adult caregiver. PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. Masks are recommended.
Duration: 30 minutes

STUFF AND NONSENSE

For Ages:  Kids in Grades K and 1. Children attend independently, but caregivers must remain in the Youth Services Wing for the duration of the program. 
Description: A program of exciting stories– plus a craft! PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. Masks are recommended for attendees. Spaces are limited– please call the Youth Services Desk at 203-637-8802 to sign up your child by the morning of the program.
Duration: 45 minutes

SPOTLIGHT

For Ages: Kids in Grades 2, 3, and 4. Children attend independently, but caregivers must remain in the Youth Services Wing for the duration of the program. 
Description: Non-Fiction books and stories– plus a craft kit! The theme of this program changes each session. PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON, INDOORS IN OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM ROOM. YOUNG CRITICS’ CLUB (YCC)

For Ages: Kids entering Grades 6, 7, and 8 in Fall 2022
Description: Book talks and book sharing for young readers. For AVID readers only! Apply today for the 2022-2023 school year!
Duration: 75 minutes

* Wednesdays at 4 PM on July 13th, July 20th, July 27th, and August 3rd

  • While these programs will be drop-in in the Spring, please note that they are limited to the first 20 children and their caregivers to arrive. Masks are recommended for all participants ages 2 and up

STUFF & NONSENSE/SPOTLIGHT IN-PERSON PROGRAM REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Please call the Youth Services Desk  (203-637-8802) to sign up your child– spaces are limited to 20 children for each program
  • Children must be in the correct grade for the program (Grades K/1 for Stuff & Nonsense and Grades 2/3/4 for Spotlight)
  • You, your child, or your child’s caregiver MUST have an active library card in good standing to be eligible for enrollment in Perrot Library’s programs for children
