Children’s Programs

Preview Our August Bonus Storytimes 

We typically offer three program sessions each year. Our Winter/Spring session runs from January through April, our summer session takes place during the month of July, and our Fall session runs from September through November. We offer limited programming during May and June due to school outreach visits.

Program Descriptions

BABY STORYTIME 

Summer 2024 Offerings:
* Mondays at 11:30 AM, 7/8 through 7/29
For Ages: 0 to 15 months. Children attend with an adult caregiver.
Registration: DROP-IN, L
imited to the first 25 children and their caregivers to arrive.
Duration: 30 minutes 
Description: Join Miss Jen for stories and songs for babies, followed by open playtime from 12-12:30 PM. 

TODDLER STORYTIME

Summer 2024 Offerings:
* Tuesdays at 10 AM with Miss Annie, 7/9-7/30
* Wednesdays at 10 AM with Miss Annie, 7/10-7/31
* Thursdays at 10:45 AM with Miss Megan, 7/11-8/1
* Fridays at 10:45 AM with Miss Megan, 7/12-8/2
For Ages: 15 months-48 months. Children attend with an adult caregiver.
Registration: DROP-IN, Limited to the first 25 children and their caregivers to arrive.
Duration: 30 minutes
Description: Come explore through books, music, rhymes, and more! 

PRE-K STORYTIME 

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
* Wednesdays at 2 PM on 7/10 and 7/24
For Ages:
 4- and 5-year-olds. Children attend with an adult caregiver.

Registration: DROP-IN, Limited to the first 25 children and their caregivers to arrive.
Duration: 30 minutes
Description: Join Ms. Jen as she shares some of her favorite picture books for preschoolers. 

SING WITH ME

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
*
Thursdays at 4 PM on 7/11, 7/18, 8/8, and 8/22

For Ages: Families with children of all ages. Children attend with an adult caregiver 
Registration: IMPORTANT: THIS PROGRAM REQUIRES ONLINE PRE-REGISTRATION. Register online via LibCal for the 8/8 program beginning at 6 PM on Monday, 8/5. Limited to 4 tickets per family. 
Duration: 30 minutes
Description: An energetic family sing-along program with live music, featuring music teacher and guitarist Mr. Jim.

READ TO A DOG

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
* No programs planned
For Ages: All ages. (Younger children should have their adult nearby)
Registration: DROP-IN. No pre-registration required, but you may need to wait your turn until a dog is available. Please arrive between 3:45 and 4:30.
Duration: 1 hour
Description: Build your confidence by reading out loud to a friendly dog. All dogs are trained therapy dogs and great listeners! Participants may pick whatever they would like to read for the program, although library staff are always available for suggestions.  

DEBATE CLUB

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
*
 Tuesdays at 4 PM on 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, and 7/30
For Ages:
  9-12 

Registration: BY REGISTRATION ONLY. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to sign up, or call us at 203-637-8802. 
Duration: 1 hour
Description:
Flex your critical thinking skills by participating in debates about fun topics. Winners will receive prizes, and all participants will have first dibs on future debate topics!

CRAFTING CONNECTIONS

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
* Wednesdays at 4 PM on 7/10 and 7/24
For Ages: 9-12. Kids age 5-8 may also attend, but must be accompanied by an adult helper.
Registration: BY REGISTRATION ONLY. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to sign up, or call us at 203-637-8802. Please note– there are separate sign-up sheets for each meeting date– sign up for as many or as few as you want. 
Duration: 1 hour
Description: Give back to the community by hand-making items to donate to charitable organizations. We will sign off on volunteer time for you if needed! On 7/10, we will be sewing hearts to donate to babies in the NICU. On 7/24, color a picture to send to seniors, troops, or anyone else who needs a smile!

 

THANK GREENWICH IT’S FRIDAY: BAD MOVIE NIGHT

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
Fridays at 4 PM on 7/12
For Ages: 8-13
Registration: DROP-IN
Duration: 1 1/2 hours
Description: It’s almost the weekend, which means it’s time to have fun! Enjoy recreational programs every Friday. Get in touch with your inner movie critic! Eat snack while you watch an arguably bad movie. Heckling is encouraged! End with a vote: Was it bad, or was it so bad it’s good? On 7/12, we will be showing Good Burger (Rated PG- Parents, please do your own due diligence in deciding if you feel this movie will be appropriate for your child). Doors open at 3:45 PM, and the movie will start promptly at 4 PM. Movie is 1 hour, 35 minutes. Snacks will be provided, but please bring your own water bottle.

 

THANK GREENWICH IT’S FRIDAY: APOCALYPSE LIFE SKILLS

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
* Fridays at 4 PM on 7/19
For Ages: 9-13
Registration: BY REGISTRATION ONLY. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to sign up, or call us at 203-637-8802. 
Duration: 1 hour
Description: The zombie apocalypse could be around the corner! Learn new skills that could improve your chances of survival. On 7/19, we will be making paracord bracelets. First aid, fishing, building a shelter, making repairs– the uses for a paracord bracelet are endless!

 

THANK GREENWICH IT’S FRIDAY: CREATIVENTURES

Summer 2024 Offerings: 
Fridays at 4 PM on 7/26
For Ages: 9-13
Registration: BY REGISTRATION ONLY. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to sign up, or call us at 203-637-8802. 
Duration: 1 hour
Description: Stretch your artistic imagination using an array of mediums, skills, and techniques. On 7/26, we will be making book bricks. Turn an ordinary brick into a work of art! Put your book brick in your garden or on your bookshelf. 


YOUNG CRITICS’ CLUB (YCC)

Summer 2024 Meeting Dates:
* Wednesdays at 4 PM on July 17th, July 31st, and August 14th
For Ages: Kids in Grades 6, 7, and 8 
Registration: BY SPECIAL APPLICATION ONLY. The club is now full for the 2024-2025 school year. 
Duration: 75 minutes
Description: At each meeting, Young Critics get to know each other better with a book-themed game, then grab a snack and discuss their recent reads. Ms. Jen and Mrs. Woodward booktalk a new book and share their new finds with the group. Young Critics get first dibs on these selections and rate and report back at the next meeting with their thoughts

 

Program Registration

DEBATE CLUB, CRAFTING CONNECTIONS, TGIF, AND SING WITH ME

  • Please stop by the Youth Services Desk or call us (203-637-8802) to sign up your child–- spaces are limited!
  • Children must be the correct age for the program– ages 9-12 for Debate Club, ages 9-12  for Crafting Connections (5-8 OK with an adult helper), and 9-13 for TGIF Apocalypse Life Skills and TGIF Creativentures
  • Please note that there is a separate sign-up sheet for each meeting of Crafting Connections– sign up for as many or as few as you’d like
  • For Sing With Me, please register online in advance (follow directions above). Program is for all ages, but tickets are limited to 4 per family. You must reserve a ticket for each attendee (both adults and children)
