Yoga @ the Library

Join Laura DeLongis Barnes for a stimulating yoga class on Saturday morning, November 16, from 9:30-10:30 am in the Program Room, Radcliffe Building, Perrot Memorial Library. Participants should dress appropriately, bring their own yoga mat, and keep their footwear inside the Program Room during the class. Class size is limited to 15; there is a waiting list.

Here is Laura’s take on yoga:

I discovered my love for yoga after moving to NYC in 2016. It quickly became my go-to for stress relief and a way to challenge both mind and body. In 2020, I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training at Good Vibes Yoga Bar in Nutley, N.J., deepening my practice and taking the next step to become a certified instructor.

In my classes, I focus primarily on Vinyasa-style yoga, emphasizing the connection between movement and breath. I’m passionate about creating inclusive, engaging classes that cater to a range of student needs and skill levels, including those new to yoga. I emphasize thoughtful modifications and proper alignment, providing a supportive space where students at any level can explore their practice. Expect a class that flows with upbeat music, helping you find both energy and mindfulness in class. Whether you’re seeking a gentle flow or a more challenging sequence, my classes are adaptable to meet your needs, allowing you to build both strength and awareness at your own pace.

My goal is to help you cultivate mindfulness and physical awareness, wherever you are in your yoga journey.

Book Discussion: Our Little Farm, by Peter Wohlleben

Perrot Memorial Library and the Greenwich Conservation Commission invite you to our co-sponsored environmental book discussion on Wednesday, November 20, at 7 pm in the Program Room, Radcliffe Building, Perrot Library. Our November Pick is Our Little Farm, by Peter Wohlleben. Our discussion will be facilitated by Rebecca Poirier, environmental analyst, Conservation Department, Town of Greenwich.

Peter and Miriam moved from the city to a remote forest lodge in the early nineties. Amidst juggling careers and raising a young family, they learned how to plant and rotate crops, harvest and preserve nature’s bounty, and tend to the unique needs of their animals and environment. Along the way, they made mistakes and abandoned some projects (sheep raising was not their thing) but maintained a sense of joy in their shared goal. Brimming with insights, wisdom, and tips on everything from constructing farm buildings to choosing the perfect chicken, Our Little Farm: Adventures in Sustainable Living shows that, with a little grit, humor, and self-compassion, it’s possible to live according to our values and to care for the earth even as we care for ourselves, our homes, and our families.

Registration is required.
